Travel Magic – Supplies and Tools

What you should bring from home

  • A small votive candle – tea lights travel pretty well. Or if you are traveling someplace where you could go out and buy a nice small special occasion candle, that would be nice, too.
  • Your own Perfume or Cologne. This will be your ‘anointing oil’.
  • Ideally you should bring along a small crystal or other semi-precious stone wherever you go.
  • Incense: The ideal incenses to use for clearing a room are loose or bundled sage and cedar. These herbs are used extensively in Native American ritual for ‘clearing’, i.e. removing negative or unwanted energies from a place. But prepared incense will suffice in a pinch as smoke itself has "clearing" properties. Cone incense is the easiest to pack.
  • Glass votive holder or other appropriate fire-safe container for your candle, such as an ashtray.

Here Are the Other Tools You Will Need

  • An ashtray. If you are in a non-smoking room, ask the front desk for one. If they ask why you want it - If you’re a woman – tell them it’s to keep your jewelry in one place. If you’re a man, it’s for your loose pocket change. Most won’t ask anyway.
  • A water glass. Glass is best – but plastic will always do.
  • A cutting from the surrounding landscaping (or a flower from your business lunch, or any form of nature will do).
  • Feel free to add any other symbol or icon that is special to you, religious or otherwise; such as a tiny statue of the Virgin Mary or Buddha, a cross, a holy card, a lucky rabbit’s foot, etc.
You need not be a full-fledged Wiccan to perform this ritual, but please be respectful of the power that you are calling upon and do the steps in the order in which they are presented. You may re-word any of the prayers or affirmations in your own words as they remain positive and life affirming.

Remember that incense and candles should be burned only in fireproof containers such as metal, glass, or ceramic; placed away from flammable objects; and out of reach of children and pets. And never leave candles or incense burning unattended.

Let’s begin…
