Travel Magic - Prepare for Ritual - Establishing an Altar or Central Focal Point

After you’ve lugged your suitcases to your room, pick a spot for your activities. This may be a table by the window, the bureau across from the bed or the night-stand… Just chose a spot you can keep undisturbed. Don’t let the mess of living from a suitcase encroach upon ‘your altar’.

Gather your tools before you begin now, because gathering items as you go breaks your concentration, and you’d need to start over. So, set up all of your items neatly in some kind of formation or line. The traditional setup is to place your altar items in accordance with the elements they represent.

Stone/Crystal (Earth) to the North
the Candle (Fire) to the South
Incense (Air) to the East
Glass or Cup (Water) to the West.

However when you travel, knowing which way is north is not always possible as you may not even know which way is Up! So just place your things with care and love.

Remove the votive tea-light candle from the tin cup. Pull on the wick, it should slide out. If it’s stuck, you can encourage it to loosen by placing it in a freezer (or on ice). The tin cup can serve as an incense burner liner.

Place the tin cup in your ashtray.
Place a large pinch of incense in your tin cup.
Place the candle in your Glass votive holder.
Fill your glass with water.

At this point if you have not freshened up after your day of travel or meetings, do so now before you start your ritual. Wash your hands and face, even take a shower or bath if you feel so inclined.
