Basic Wiccan Tools and Symbols - Triskelion

The triskelion is a great symbol to use in rituals or for decorating your Wiccan altar or tools. Here is one definition according to the Woman's Dictionary of Symbols and Sacred Objects by Barbara G. Walker:
"Triskelion: The triskelion is simply the triple-triangle form of Fate (or Fates) with one side of each of the triangles removed so that a swastika like figure results. It is one of the lively symbols, giving a distinct impression of movement. This is the basic pattern for the tryfuss, the three-armed design, and similar variants."
This is a GREAT book, except for this one definition... Actually from my experience and training, what Ms. Walker calls a 'World Triad' is a Triskelion - a circle which is divided into sections like a yin/yang symbol only it is divided in three.
"World Triad: Although the World Triad sign was adopted by western Gnostics as an emblem of cosmic creativity, the threefold nature of reality or fate, and the eternally spiraling cycles of time, it was of Oriental provenance. In Japan it was maga-tama or mitsu tomoe, the world soul or any individual offshoot of it. In Bhutan and Tibet it is still known as the Cosmic Mandala, a sign of the Timurti. Like the twofold yang and yin that it resembles, the World Triad symbol was usually understood as a graphic image of eternity."
Now my definition - Triskelion:

This threefold yin/yang type symbol is found in Oriental philosophy. It is also found in ancient Celtic symbolism and from this root, many pagan, and Wiccan traditions have adopted it. The threefold nature symbolizes the Triple Goddess and the karmic wheel of life: birth, life, and death.

Hope this gives some interesting insight!
