Autumnal Equinox - History of the Autumnal Equinox

Leader (or someone) tells the story...
"The Autumnal Equinox is also known as Mabon, in honor of the Welsh fertility God from Arthurian legend. At this time of the year, the crops are being harvested and the world is full of thanksgiving.

"The Autumnal Equinox is a time when the day and night are equal. A time when light and darkness are brought into harmony, but darkness will again soon rule the world so a traditional color to wear is brown. It is a mysterious time when all are rejoicing for the abundance of the harvest, but all are conversely contemplating the coming winter and hibernation.

"Fermented juices and fresh wines are consecrated to god and goddess. Fall imagery such as blackberries, heather flowers, willow trees and vines figure prominently. In fact a weaving of vines into baskets symbolized the weaving of the harvest abundance into ones life. New wands and magical staffs are cut from willow branches at Equinox.

"On this Equinox, it is a great to time to be thankful and content and ponder the coming months of winter celebrations."
