Introduction to a Good Witch ~ Good Wiccan Ritual
Ritual exists in many Religions for the purpose of creating paradigm shifts in consciousness. In Wicca, they are used to connect with the cycles of the planet and to provide self-empowerment and fulfillment. As you read through the steps you will discover more about the symbolic meaning of Ritual and hopefully discover new depths of experience in your life.
Study Up!
Being that you have this guide let your interest in the metaphysical world lead you to learn more. Following the notes here on this website (from The Good Wiccan) is an excellent way to get a thorough background on all aspects of Wicca. And there are many many other books available on the subject. If you have never participated in a ritual before or are unfamiliar with the tools of Wicca it is suggested you do your homework before partaking in ritual. The two most respected and widely accepted authors on the subject are Scott Cunningham and Starhawk. Do take the time to read one or more of their books.
Remember Wiccans never user their influence for personal gain at the expense of others.
This is expressed in the Golden Rule, Harm None.
RESPECT !
Have a healthy respect for the power you are about to encounter and do not take it lightly. You are entering a sacred trust with the world and this means accepting a level of responsibility for your actions in it. If you enter into a ritual with purity of heart and pureness of intent, there is nothing that can harm you, and the whole experience can be very life enriching.
So go ahead and add a little magic into your life!
How to Perform a General Good Witch Good Wiccan Ritual
Ritual may be simplified into the following basic installments: Set-Up, Preparation, Introduction, Creation of Sacred Space, Sabbath Ritual, Thanksgiving and Conclusion. To make following this easier, I am dividing Rituals into these five modular components.
- Preparation (Invitation – Sharing Info – Practicing – Day Of Ritual)
- Welcome and History
- Consecration of Space
- Actual Sabbath Ritual (This is specific action per holy day being celebrated.)
- Thanksgiving
In an actual ritual itself, there will be spoken parts, actions or activities and chants. You may use some of the ideas here on the Good Wiccan website verbatim, OR use parts of them, OR completely make up your own in the spirit of the occasion.
When it is appropriate for a male or female to lead an invocation – the masculine or feminine is often indicated. However, if the ritual is performed by a group of just one sex, it is perfectly acceptable for either a male or female to make any invocation.
