Wheel of the Year – About Good Wicca Esbats, Sabbaths, Holy Days, Holidays and Rituals
Holy Days and Sabbaths to Observe – The Wheel of the Year
The Wiccan calendar is also known as The Wheel of the Year. There are 8 Sabbaths, or Holy Days, in the year that observe the seasonal cycles. The Sabbaths are a time to re-align your consciousness and reflect on the mysteries of the world. As we see the seasons and the world change, we can see how we have the potential to change and grow ourselves.
The following Eight High Holy Days are covered on the Website:
Winter Solstice | Candlemas | Vernal Equinox | Beltane | Summer Solstice | Lummas | Autumnal Equinox | Samhain
Triple Goddess
The Goddess appears during the year in three symbolic forms, the Virgin, the Mother, and the Grandmother Crone. The term Virgin Goddess does not imply she has not had sex. Interestingly, virgin originally meant that this was a woman who was ‘complete’ not in terms of her hymen, but in terms of her power. A virgin was a woman who was not bound by secular law and was free to take on as many lovers as she wished without a husband, because she was “whole unto herself” and did not need a permanent man in her life.
