Lummas – Lummas Ritual – Lighting of the Fire and The Harvest Yet to Come
Leader begins:
“This is a festival of thanksgiving – yet also of anticipation and hope. We all work so hard at our day to day lives – but don’t always see the light at the end of the tunnel. We often wonder if there is light at the end of the tunnel.
“We light this fire to remind us of the constancy of God and Goddess and to reaffirm our faith and trust in world’s ability to produce our daily bread.”
All quietly participate in lighting the fire.
Leader goes around to each participant with the basket of bread and asks,
“What do you wish to harvest now in your life?”
Participant answers “abundance, a lover, a marriage, a fulfilling job, a proposal, etc.” The leader than offers them the chalice of ale and the basket of bread.
“Behold the cup of life – let it quench your thirst for a better life in this time of waiting.
“Behold the staff of life – let it nourish you to work harder in this time of waiting.”
Lummas – Lummas Ritual – Tales of Heroism
“I will pass the ‘staff’ of life around the circle and as it passes to each one – each of us will regale us with a short tale of a hero.
“Tell us when you acted bravely, did something special for someone or made a difference. Then pass the staff along to the next person. No one may speak except for the one who holds the ‘staff’.”
After each person is finished sharing – the group acknowledges them with a loud and hearty exclamation.
CHANT: “hah!”
After each has spoken and the staff has come back to the leader – the leader continues:
“Each of us has already harvested rewards in this life and made a difference. God and Goddess are pleased with all of us for our very differences and achievements of all sizes. We may even now have specific goals we are reaching for and wonder if we will attain them.
“The important part is that we have planted the seeds – now we must wait and watch and trust to see what will come back to us.”The important part is not about the end result – but the subtle process of achieving.”
Lummas Ritual – Cone of Energy Inner Vision
A cone of energy may be raised – but it should be done silently dancing around the fire without chanting.
Let the energy calm down naturally as people tire from dancing and chanting.
As the energy subsides, let all stand (or sit) and sway with their eyes closed.
Let the moment that just happened have a chance to make its way inward for each individual. Take deep breaths and allow a resonant tone to happen with each extended exhalation.
CHANT: “Ohm” or “Aum”
